Creation of the legal framework allowing the administrative banning of dangerous radical organisations that pose a serious and present threat either to national security or to the foundations of the rule of law. In other words, organisations that facilitate or encourage terrorism or extremism, or incite hatred, discrimination or segregation, will in future be able to be banned and dissolved on the basis of a court decision (see the Council of State's opinion of 31/12/2025)

Tougher sentences for criminal networks

The federal government is increasing penalties for drug trafficking, arms trafficking and participation in a criminal organisation; aggravated money laundering, that is, where the perpetrator is an obliged entity or where the offence is committed within a criminal organisation, will be punished more severely; and a new aggravating factor is created for participation in a criminal organisation where it involves recruiting minors to commit or contribute to offences.

More police capacity through the takeover of nuclear site security by the military

The federal police are regaining police capacity! Since 1 July, military personnel have been providing security at the Tihange and Doel nuclear sites. From 1 December, the same will apply to the nuclear facilities in Mol, Geel and Dessel, and from April 2026 to the Fleurus site. This frees up police capacity that can be redeployed to fight crime, particularly in Brussels.

Additional investment in internal security

The security services will receive additional resources to better protect citizens and strengthen their action on the ground. On top of the 450 million euros provided for in the coalition agreement, 5% of the defence effort, around 200 million euros a year, will be devoted to internal security. These resources will notably support the police, Defence back-up for certain sensitive missions, new helicopters for the Federal Police, the merger of Brussels' police zones and the recruitment of 100 inspectors to fight social and tax fraud. The aim: more presence, more coordination and more effectiveness against everyday threats.

North District: strong measures to restore peace and quiet

The people of Schaerbeek deserve to sleep soundly: the Northern Quarter cannot become a lawless area. Faced with the security problems regularly denounced, strong measures are being introduced: closing shops at night, more surveillance cameras and a greater presence on the ground. On the initiative of Audrey Henry and mayor Martin de Brabant, these actions aim to restore calm, protect residents and guarantee a safer living environment.

Merger of the 6 Brussels police zones and voluntary mergers nationwide

Crime does not stop at municipal boundaries, so the police must act in a more coordinated way. Merging the Brussels police zones into a single zone makes it possible to pool resources, avoid duplication and strengthen effectiveness on the ground. The result: more coherent action, greater everyday security and the continued presence of an accessible community police force for all.

Revision of the Animal Welfare Code and its implementing decrees

An animal is not an object: it deserves protection and respect. To better defend that welfare every day, the legislation is being strengthened: tougher penalties for mistreatment, a “certificate of trust” to encourage responsible owners, a framework for breeding animals with extreme characteristics and stricter rules for convicted individuals. The result: fewer abuses and a safer environment for animals… and for society.
