Young farmers better supported

Several concrete administrative simplifications benefit young farmers in particular: a change to the deadline for submitting a start-up aid application, giving young people more time to develop their project; an exemption from conditionality checks for holdings of less than 10 hectares; a change to the Standard Gross Output (SGO) threshold so that young people can access investment aid; and the safeguarding of the coupled support budget by ending the transfer mechanism to other schemes. The start-up aid budget has been increased so that every application assessed favourably can indeed receive support.

Policy paper on agricultural land policy

Farmland plays a crucial role through its food-producing function, but also in the local economy and the cohesion of rural areas. It is a direct source of income and jobs for farmers, their families and seasonal workers, as well as for many economic activities upstream and downstream of the production chain. The policy paper sets out the full land strategy, with the aim of securing access to land and promoting entry into and transfer of farm businesses, in order to encourage generational renewal.

Soil erosion: adapted rules to protect farmland

Following the concerns raised by the first version in 2023, the scheme has been simplified and revised to take better account of realities on the ground. The aim is not to ban crops, but to allow farming to continue everywhere, provided that certain practices are adapted where erosion risks are identified.

Walloon airports: tougher sanctions against noise pollution

The system for monitoring and penalising noise limit breaches around Liège and Charleroi airports is being strengthened. In practice, warnings are being scrapped and a penalty may now be imposed as soon as a single fixed noise meter records a breach of a noise threshold. A step forward long awaited by local residents, better protecting their living environment while allowing airport activity to develop within a clearer framework.
