While numerous untruths are circulating about the ongoing reforms, the federal government, with the support of the Mouvement Réformateur, wishes to set certain facts straight. Through concrete and balanced decisions, the government's action pursues a threefold objective: more purchasing power, more social justice and responsible reforms to prepare for the future.
1. A net pay rise for all workers and a modernised tax systemFrom 2026, every worker will benefit from a net pay rise of at least €120 per month. This increase will be made possible by combining an ambitious tax reform, automatic indexation and targeted measures in favour of low and middle incomes.
By restoring the value of work, the government will act to widen the gap between income from work and income from benefits, a principle the MR has long championed. The aim is to reward effort, boost activity and ensure that work always pays more than inactivity.
In a demanding economic context, the tax reform driven by the MR will aim to support work and strengthen the competitiveness of our economy. The concrete measures will be varied:
- Increase in the tax-free allowance;
- Reduction of the special social security contribution;
- Strengthening of the employment bonus;
- Alignment of gross and net pay for the minimum wage.
These measures form part of a broader drive towards tax simplification and the fight against fraud.
2. Retention of specific schemes for police officers and firefightersContrary to what some political parties claim, it has never been proposed to make police officers and firefighters work until age 67. The government fully recognises the specific nature of these essential professions, marked by demanding conditions, exposure to danger and particular working rhythms.
That is why their specific pension schemes will be maintained. Retirement conditions will be gradually adjusted, respecting acquired rights and in close consultation with the sectors concerned. No sudden measures, no automatic alignment: social justice remains at the heart of the reform.
3. A fair and sustainable pension reformThe pension reform launched by the majority responds to a necessity: to preserve the viability of our pension system, while ensuring fairness between generations. Long and demanding careers are recognised. Transitional periods are planned to support the changes, particularly for members of the armed forces or SNCB staff, whose professional reality justifies adapted treatment.
This reform is not driven by austerity, but by a sense of responsibility: to ensure that our social system remains fair, efficient and financed in the long term.
The MR remains true to its commitments
Faced with disinformation campaigns, the MR reaffirms its direction: acting seriously, preparing the future with clarity and defending citizens who work. Promises made are kept. And the results are there: concrete, fair and sustainable reforms, serving a more balanced society.
In this period of transformation, the Mouvement Réformateur remains more than ever true to its liberal values: freedom, responsibility and justice.
