Education

There is no real democracy without quality education.

There is no real democracy without quality education. Understanding society, finding your place in it, contributing to its development: it all starts with a complete and demanding general education that combines individual emancipation with social progress.

Basic skills

Reading, writing, arithmetic: the first building blocks on which all knowledge is built.

Teachers

Respected transmitters of knowledge, freed from administrative burdens.

Neutrality

A neutral official education system, a place of freedom for every pupil.

A school for equal opportunities

Social inequalities remain a reality today. To break the social determinism that holds people back, the role of teachers and educators is essential. School must allow every child, whatever their background, language, culture of origin or specific needs, to flourish, to surpass themselves and to take their place in society.

A high-quality, demanding school is the best guarantee of this.

Better learning of basic skills

Equal opportunities means mastering the basics: reading, writing and arithmetic. These are the first building blocks, the foundation on which all knowledge is built. How can anyone reason, argue or think critically without them?

Too many students still fail in higher education because they have not mastered these fundamentals. That is unacceptable: every child has the ability to master reading, writing and arithmetic.

Respected teachers

Teachers pass on the essentials: they give pupils the keys to become free, equal and enlightened men and women. For that, they deserve respect, from parents and pupils alike.

The MR is working to cut back as far as possible the administrative burdens weighing on their shoulders, so they can refocus on their essential mission: teaching.

A neutral official education system

Because teachers are figures of authority, it is essential that they appear neutral in the exercise of their duties: objectivity and impartiality in content, and an appearance free of any display of personal convictions.

This neutrality is the guarantee, for pupils and their parents, that school is a place of freedom where all ideas can be debated without any single viewpoint being imposed. The philosophy and citizenship course develops precisely these skills: critical thinking and productive disagreement.

Guiding young people towards the jobs of the future

Liberals want to encourage young people to choose the jobs of the future, particularly in technical and scientific fields, by making these courses more attractive and by upgrading vocational education, with stronger links to the business world.

School must also develop the learning of languages and of the “digital language”, an essential passport to employment in the age of artificial intelligence. Finally, higher education must offer courses of excellence, with funding to match those needs.
