In an interview with Sudinfo, the President of the Mouvement Réformateur firmly denounces the rise of political violence in Belgium, a climate not seen in a long time. For Georges-Louis Bouchez, moral failure is evident in certain left-wing statements that justify attacks based on the location of political meetings, without clearly condemning the acts themselves. He points to the lack of any substantial difference between the traditional left and the far left: “We are witnessing a rebellious Belgium ready to do anything to obstruct democratic debate.”
The MR President also criticises the activist grip of the ULG. The current unrest is merely the result of an agitated left. On the issue of integrity, he denounces the attempts at moral discrediting orchestrated against right-wing politicians: “After the attack on integrity and family, they want to build cases out of nothing.”
The press also has a role to play here; it must remain professional and independent. In the vast majority of cases, journalists do their job well, but some engage in activism.
On the political project, Georges-Louis Bouchez recalls that winning means implementing reforms, proposing ideas and convincing voters once again.
On the economic front, and during the conclave, he warns: the greatest danger lies in the closing of markets and rising customs duties. The MR President stresses a return to the state's core missions: security, infrastructure, schools and equal opportunities, while also questioning the scope of the public sector's role and the ability to maintain the current standard of living.
Finally, he advocates a truthful discourse on international cooperation, believing that sovereign nations must take responsibility. He calls for streamlining governance: fewer elected representatives, modernising the public sector through AI, and holding everyone accountable in exercising their freedoms, whether large families or social benefit recipients. For him, “liberalism, founded on freedom, equal opportunities and responsibility, remains the only political philosophy that has proven effective in the world.”
