Access to unemployment benefits is becoming easier to understand: you must have worked at least one year over the previous three years to qualify. For young people, the vocational integration period is cut to six months and can start immediately after the end of their studies, while keeping two compulsory positive assessments. Strengthening degressivity to better protect at the start of unemployment and encourage a return to work

Losing your job must not mean falling straight into insecurity. The first six months of unemployment are better protected, with salary ceilings raised to the level of an average full-time wage and a higher minimum benefit for low earners. After that, the amount gradually decreases as the unemployment period continues, so that a real incentive to return to work remains. The system therefore becomes more protective at the moment when the loss of income is felt most, while rewarding work more.

More police capacity through the takeover of nuclear site security by the military

The federal police are regaining police capacity! Since 1 July, military personnel have been providing security at the Tihange and Doel nuclear sites. From 1 December, the same will apply to the nuclear facilities in Mol, Geel and Dessel, and from April 2026 to the Fleurus site. This frees up police capacity that can be redeployed to fight crime, particularly in Brussels.

Additional investment in internal security

The security services will receive additional resources to better protect citizens and strengthen their action on the ground. On top of the 450 million euros provided for in the coalition agreement, 5% of the defence effort, around 200 million euros a year, will be devoted to internal security. These resources will notably support the police, Defence back-up for certain sensitive missions, new helicopters for the Federal Police, the merger of Brussels' police zones and the recruitment of 100 inspectors to fight social and tax fraud. The aim: more presence, more coordination and more effectiveness against everyday threats.
