MR federal MP Daniel Bacquelaine is concerned about the explosive growth in the number of beneficiaries of the increased reimbursement status, which rose from 13% of the population in 2013 to almost 20% at the end of 2023. Projections even suggest a figure heading towards 3 million people in the near future.
This status is automatically granted to a whole range of people, such as orphans, people with severe disabilities, recipients of social integration income, etc. Other beneficiaries receive the status based on their income, provided it does not exceed a certain ceiling. However, this latter criterion does not take into account the individual's “material situation”, leading to clear abuses.
As a result, the MR is tabling a bill so that checks go further and the status granted based on income takes this material situation (housing, means of transport, etc.) into account, as is already the case for recipients of social integration income.
Daniel Bacquelaine also calls for a review of the co-payment fee (the portion paid by the patient for care), unchanged for 20 years and set at €1 for beneficiaries of increased reimbursement, in order to avoid a drift towards free healthcare, which would be unsustainable for our social security system.
