Starting from 6 October, Samuel D’Orazio, Mayor of Tubize, will take over the presidency of the Union of Walloon Cities and Municipalities (UVCW). He succeeds Rachel Sobry, who is becoming political secretary of the MR group in the Walloon Parliament. Her resignation was formally noted today at the board meeting.
As a hands-on mayor, Samuel D’Orazio intends to put his daily experience of local realities at the service of all Walloon cities and municipalities.
“This presidency is a sign of trust from my party, but also a responsibility. Citizens turn first to their municipality when they face a problem. Defending municipalities therefore means defending their ability to act concretely for citizens. My ambition will be to listen to all local realities and carry their voice to where decisions are made,” says Samuel D’Orazio.
Georges-Louis Bouchez, MR President, stresses: “Samuel D’Orazio is a dedicated mayor, close to citizens and attentive to realities on the ground. His experience, his energy and his ability to bring people together will be valuable assets in defending the interests of Walloon local authorities. His work in Tubize is the perfect example of this.”
The MR thanks Rachel Sobry for her commitment and the work accomplished at the head of the UVCW.
For Rachel Sobry: “The Union of Cities and Municipalities is an essential tool for defending local authorities. As a mayor myself, I fully appreciate the importance of this institution. Being its President is a responsibility that demands full commitment, something my daily schedule no longer allows. It is therefore with gratitude that I pass the torch to Samuel.”
As part of her new role, Rachel Sobry is also stepping down from her position as board member of the UVCW. Raphaël Dubois, Mayor of Waremme, succeeds her on this board.
