For more than three months, revelations concerning the Foyer anderlechtois have exposed serious dysfunctions in the management of social housing in Brussels. Despite accusations of favouritism, cronyism and preferential treatment, Lotfi Mostefa was nonetheless reappointed as chairman of the Foyer anderlechtois.
For the MR, this situation is unacceptable. The liberals had already called for his removal and refused to take part in the vote that allowed his re-election. Faced with the PS’s refusal to take responsibility, Georges-Louis Bouchez decided to step up the pressure.
No additional funds until the situation is resolved
The MR President has made it clear: the MR is blocking the allocation of funds to the Brussels-Capital Region Housing Corporation (SLRB) as long as Lotfi Mostefa remains at the head of the Foyer anderlechtois.
“We have blocked the allocation of the SLRB’s funds. They will not receive their funds as long as Lotfi Mostefa remains in charge of the Foyer anderlechtois,” declared Georges-Louis Bouchez, MR President.
With this decision, the MR intends to confront the Brussels PS with its responsibilities and force it to act. There is no question of releasing new funds until the situation at the Foyer anderlechtois is resolved and the necessary guarantees of good governance, transparency and responsible management are ensured.
The PS can no longer look away
Despite the successive revelations and the establishment of a parliamentary inquiry committee, the PS has so far maintained its support for Lotfi Mostefa. This position has become untenable for the MR.
Brussels residents have a right to exemplary public institutions and to social housing managed in the interest of those who genuinely need it. Public money cannot be used to sustain a system whose governance is seriously in question.
The MR will therefore continue to demand full transparency about the functioning of the Foyer anderlechtois and Lotfi Mostefa’s departure from his responsibilities.
