Faced with the spread of the Asian hornet, Walloon municipalities are on the front line. Managing reports, urgent interventions, citizens' concerns: this issue has become a recurring worry for local authorities, often confronted with a lack of resources and coordination.
With the new plan launched by the Minister for Nature, Anne-Catherine Dalcq, Wallonia is providing a structured response, long awaited on the ground.
Stronger resources to support municipalities
The Region is mobilising up to €1 million in 2026, up from €180,000 previously. A major increase reflecting genuine awareness.
Above all, €300,000 will be directly allocated to supporting municipalities in neutralising nests. Essential support for heavily stretched local services.
Concrete tools for greater efficiency
The plan also includes:
- A single information portal to guide citizens and ease the pressure on municipal administrations;
- An app dedicated to municipalities to track reports and coordinate interventions;
- Support for provinces to better assist local initiatives.
These tools will provide better coordination and precious time savings for municipal teams.
A mobilisation driven from the ground up
The strategy builds on action already taken locally. More than 80,000 traps have been distributed in collaboration with municipalities, proof of a collective mobilisation.
This plan is therefore good news for local authorities: it provides a concrete response to their requests with resources, clarity and support.
By placing municipalities at the heart of the scheme, Anne-Catherine Dalcq confirms that effective policy is built with and for those on the ground.
