The investigation by the magazine Pano (VRT) into the Foyer anderlechtois confirms once again what the MR has been denouncing for years: a clientelist system in which public money and vulnerable families are exploited for electoral purposes, rather than being served with rigour and respect.
In Anderlecht, as previously at the Sambrienne in Charleroi, the same scenario repeats itself: suspicions of favouritism, political interference in the allocation of social housing, a climate of pressure and ongoing wheeling and dealing around socialist officials. While thousands of families wait on endless waiting lists, some appear to view social housing as a reservoir of votes, not as a public service mission.
The MR rejects this leniency. It demands resignations wherever political responsibility is involved, along with a thorough overhaul of the social housing companies concerned, in order to finally start afresh on sound and transparent foundations.
For the MR, every euro of public money must be managed impeccably. Social housing must be a tool serving the most vulnerable, not an instrument of party power. We will continue to demand stronger controls, irreproachable governance, and an end to cronyism, which discredits not only a municipality but public action as a whole.
