Due to the particularly rainy weather conditions of recent weeks, farmers in our country are currently going through a difficult period. Our farmers and horticulturalists are seeing their harvest schedules significantly altered, putting their cash flow under pressure. These exceptional circumstances are jeopardising their ability to meet their tax obligations within the set deadlines
For these reasons, David Clarinval, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Middle Classes, Self-Employed, SMEs and Agriculture, Institutional Reforms and Democratic Renewal, has submitted an official request to the Finance Minister for the postponement of payments of various duties, taxes and loans for the second quarter of this year for businesses operating in sectors particularly affected by the severe weather our country has experienced since the beginning of spring.
David Clarinval, Minister for Agriculture: This request is particularly close to my heart, because Belgian farmers have been enormously affected by the wet weather of recent weeks. It is our duty to help them. I am therefore asking the Finance Minister to grant them a postponement of payments for taxes, duties and loans for the second quarter of 2024. This measure will give farmers a bit of breathing room, more necessary than ever in this difficult period.
As a reminder, during the July 2021 floods, the energy crisis and the Covid crisis, the same relative leniency measures on payments were adopted.
