In Sprimont, community life takes shape as much in the villages as around the schools, shops and associations. This week, the Mouvement Réformateur takes you to this semi-rural municipality to meet Luc Delvaux. A veterinarian by profession and mayor, he leads a Mayor's List that brings together a variety of political and civic profiles. Childcare, access to employment and sports activities are among the issues shaping local action today: all ways of making the municipality more welcoming and meeting the needs of its residents.
“Luc, your profession as a vet has accustomed you to direct contact with people and the realities on the ground. What does this experience bring you in your role as mayor, and which aspect of this responsibility is particularly close to your heart?”
For 33 years, veterinary practice has allowed me to develop an in-depth knowledge of our Sprimont territory, but also to better understand the daily life, concerns and expectations of our residents. This hands-on experience is a valuable asset for grasping the needs of our municipality of Sprimont and preparing for its future.
For me, being mayor means above all being present, available and attentive to the population. Paying attention to their needs is, in my view, an essential part of good management. Because managing a municipality is a daily responsibility.
It means acting with common sense and like a good family man, to ensure the harmonious development of Sprimont, while continually working to improve the quality of life of its residents.
“Early childhood care and well-being at school are currently the subject of municipal initiatives. On which points do you still want to make progress to make daily life easier for families and allow children to grow up in good conditions in Sprimont?”
In Sprimont, we have taken several concrete actions to improve early childhood care and support families in their daily lives.
First of all, we decided to increase the daily subsidy for Sprimont facilities that care for children from our municipality. This is an important gesture: it helps support these facilities financially, strengthen the quality of care and offer parents stable and accessible childcare solutions.
We are investing directly in our infrastructure with 2 nurseries housed in municipal buildings that are constantly and significantly being improved.
Our ambition is to open an additional new nursery to increase the childcare offer and meet the needs of young families settling in Sprimont, by providing children with optimal living and development conditions and thus enabling parents to more peacefully balance family and professional life.
We ensure that every child in our schools is given the best conditions to grow, learn and flourish in a safe, caring and stimulating environment.
We also want to improve out-of-school care, offer varied activities on Wednesday afternoons and during school holidays, and pay special attention to children with specific needs.
To achieve these objectives, we favour close collaboration with teaching teams and all stakeholders on the ground.
“The municipality notably offers consultations from the Employment House and continues to support its sports programme. Over the coming years, where do you see the main opportunities to strengthen local life and make Sprimont a municipality where people can not only live, but also work, get involved and meet one another?”
In Sprimont, several municipal services work to build ties with citizens, promote social cohesion and support all groups. All these actions help citizens feel included and valued. In addition to the Employment House consultations, we organise events such as the Student Jobs fair or Perspectives Emplois, which help and support citizens in their job search while also promoting local employment.
Projects are also being carried out with dynamic partners such as our Cultural Centre, our Library, the Youth Centres and the local network of associations to maintain and support a collective momentum.
We are working on a new “Living Together” scheme that will always aim to offer actions meeting the expectations of citizens.
The economic actors department offers support to those wishing to develop their professional projects in Sprimont, integrating them into networking activities that enable meetings and synergies between the economic players of our territory.
Our logo “Sprimont, a sporting municipality” fully reflects our enthusiasm for supporting and developing sport in our municipality of Sprimont, with 45 active sports clubs and more than 20 sports disciplines.
The Sprimont Local Sports Centre develops and organises numerous courses and camps for everyone: “Everyone into sport and a sport for everyone”
We have numerous sports facilities across the Sprimont territory, including 9 football pitches, 2 sports halls, a multi-sport site at Tultay (ponds, pétanque, tennis courts, padel, etc.), a dojo and numerous sports halls in schools.
In short, plenty to welcome and delight all generations wishing to take part in a sporting or physical activity, whether as amateurs, purely for fun, or in competition.
