Two circulars published this Monday, 16 March, clarify the procedure allowing schools to apply for additional support for the 2026-2028 period. This support enables institutions to hire extra staff to strengthen pupil supervision and support teaching teams. It can notably fund childcare assistants in nursery education, as well as educational, administrative or support staff.
These circulars pursue three objectives:
- strengthening pupil supervision, particularly in nursery education;
- making the allocation of support more objective and transparent;
- simplifying administrative procedures for schools.
Strengthening supervision in nursery education
To meet the needs expressed in the field, 87 additional childcare assistant posts are being added in primary education, bringing the total to 1,681 childcare assistant posts.
These circulars also confirm the priority given to childcare assistant positions in the order of allocation of this additional support.
Clearer allocation criteria
The allocation criteria have been redefined and clarified to better take into account schools' actual needs and to ensure a more objective distribution of posts.
Applications will now be analysed and ranked based on objective data such as pupil numbers or the specific characteristics (differentiated support, pupils' specific needs) of school sites. This development ensures fairer and more transparent processing of applications, benefiting both pupils and teachers.
An administrative simplification for schools
The system is being simplified: the six existing separate circulars are now being replaced by two single circulars, one for primary and one for secondary education.
The circulars also introduce an important change for institutions. Requests for posts will now have to be submitted via a single electronic form (ACRE) accessible on the MODE platform.
This new system permanently replaces the old Excel files and will make it possible to:
- reduce the risk of encoding errors;
- process applications more quickly;
- and simplify administrative procedures for schools and the administration.
Institutions must submit their applications by 1 April 2026 at the latest.
“By increasing the number of childcare assistants in schools, we are honouring our commitment to strengthen pupil supervision, particularly in nursery education, and to better support teachers. These circulars make it possible to better target resources towards learning and pupil supervision, while simplifying procedures for teaching teams. My goal remains to concretely support teaching teams so they can focus on what matters most: learning and pupil wellbeing,” concludes Valérie Glatigny, Minister of Education.
