MR Mayors' Colloquium: less state, more local efficiency

21/05/2026
In brief

The MR is bringing its mayors together in La Hulpe on 21 and 22 May to turn municipalities into drivers of concrete reform. Goal: less state and public action refocused on its core missions. On the agenda: merging municipalities with CPAS, abolishing the provinces, local finances, security and urban planning.

The Mouvement Réformateur is holding its major MR Mayors' Colloquium in La Hulpe on 21 and 22 May, a key moment for reflection and exchange for all our mayors and local officials.

Through this colloquium, the MR intends to extend to the municipal level the reforms it is driving at other levels of power: merging municipalities with CPAS, abolishing the provinces, reducing the size of the state, simplifying structures, improving governance, merging municipalities, rationalising institutions and refocusing public action on its core missions.

This colloquium will focus on the major challenges of municipal governance: local finances, electricity grid saturation, security and the fight against crime, smart cities and cybersecurity, the municipality's attractiveness as an employer, urban planning and implementation of the SDT, provincial reform, and the future of church fabrics.

Through thematic workshops and plenary sessions, MR mayors, field experts and political leaders will compare experiences and share best practices, with a clear goal: to make MR municipalities places of concrete reform, capable of offering a more efficient, clearer and citizen-focused public service.
