Violence against politicians is no longer marginal: insults, threats and intimidation have become almost daily occurrences, as numerous testimonies and recent studies show. It affects all levels of power, from ministers to local elected representatives, with serious consequences for political engagement, psychological health and freedom of expression.
The MR is particularly targeted, in a climate where certain acts of violence are downplayed or even justified in the name of “resistance”. This trivialisation of language and hatred poses a real danger to democracy.
