From 21 to 23 July, Minister-President Adrien Dolimont, together with Minister of Defence Théo Francken, took part in the Farnborough International Airshow 2026, one of the world's major gatherings for aeronautics, space, defence and advanced technologies. This mission responded to a clear objective: positioning Wallonia where the industrial partnerships of tomorrow are being built today.
In an international context marked by numerous geopolitical tensions and the need to secure supply chains, Wallonia holds an important card to play. Its companies have recognised expertise in aeronautics, space, advanced materials, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, precision manufacturing and dual-use technologies. These are precisely the skills sought today by major international players.
In both London and Farnborough, the message was simple: Wallonia is a region of expertise, but also a reliable and innovative industrial partner. FN Herstal, Sonaca, Sabca, Thales Belgium, Safran Aero Boosters and numerous specialised SMEs, such as Coexpair and Feronyl, illustrate Wallonia's qualities in this field. Numerous contracts were signed, contacts were made and real prospects for concrete outcomes are emerging in the short term.
This mission also had a broader economic dimension. The United Kingdom remains an important partner for Wallonia, particularly in the health, biopharma and energy sectors. Consolidating this link also means being present at major events. Increasing visibility helps connect with the right partners, anticipate the needs of strategic markets and gain international recognition for one's expertise.
This mission to London and Farnborough is therefore part of a broader ambition: to show that Wallonia is a Region that innovates, produces, exports and fully takes its place in the major industrial transitions currently under way. It is a matter of competitiveness, skilled jobs, economic sovereignty and international visibility.
More than ever, Wallonia must seek out opportunities wherever they may be. And in Farnborough, it had every right to be there.
