Good news for active pensioners!
The number of pensioners taking on a flexi-job has jumped by 52% this year. This figure reflects a genuine success: more and more older people are choosing to stay active, supplement their income and maintain social ties through work.
But what exactly are the conditions for pensioners taking on a flexi-job? Let's take a closer look together.
The general conditions
Two main principles determine access to flexi-jobs for pensioners:
- The legal retirement age.
- The length of the professional career.
- Before the legal age or without a complete career
If you have not yet reached the legal retirement age or your career does not total 45 full years, your income from a flexi-job will be subject to certain limits.
These amounts vary depending on your personal situation. It is therefore advisable to check the exact ceilings with the Federal Pensions Service. - After the legal age or with a complete career
Once you reach the legal retirement age or can demonstrate 45 years of career, you may freely combine your pension with flexi-job income. No income ceiling applies!
The specific conditions for taking on a flexi-job
To be able to take on a flexi-job as a pensioner, there are two options available to you:
- Having reached the legal retirement age.
- Before that age, meeting one of the following two conditions:
- Having worked at least 80% for one or more other employers during quarter T-3 (three quarters before the flexi-job).
- Being registered in the pensions register during quarter T-2 (two quarters before the flexi-job begins).
A balanced and promising measure
The flexi-job status for pensioners is already well designed and balanced. The stricter conditions before the legal retirement age are also important: they encourage continued professional activity and prevent early withdrawal from the labour market.
The future could improve further still, as the government agreement plans to extend access to flexi-jobs to more sectors, while allowing social partners to exclude certain areas if necessary.
In summary
The flexi-job remains a great opportunity for older people wishing to stay active and safely supplement their pension.
