As a guest on Wednesday evening on the RTL TVI and RTBF news programmes, Georges-Louis Bouchez, MR President, defended a clear line: get out of the crisis, put public finances in order and revive the economy. "There is no question of this government falling. We owe that to the country and to our fellow citizens."
For our President, the debate must return to economic reality: spending is growing too fast compared to growth. The MR is therefore calling for a budget that controls spending while supporting the creation of wealth, essential to funding our public services, in line with the government agreement.
Compromise, without sacrificing the economy
"I have no problem making compromises, I have no taboos. But I have one rule: we need to revive this country's economy," stressed Georges-Louis Bouchez. He points out that the government agreement provides for limiting new revenue to one-ninth of the overall effort.
Our priority: defending investment, businesses and the jobs they create. Raising taxes at the risk of causing closures and redundancies would mean losing on both fronts.
To unblock the situation, Georges-Louis Bouchez says he is open to both paths: continuing negotiations within the current framework with the deputy prime ministers, or bringing together the party presidents to re-discuss the government agreement. With one requirement: reaching a responsible solution for the country and its citizens.
