Following the closing of the agreements on the 10-year extension of the Tihange 3 and Doel 4 reactors, the federal government welcomes Engie's announcement to open discussions on our country's nuclear energy policy.
Mathieu Bihet, Federal Minister for Energy, welcomes this development: “Beyond this extension, we are taking a key step today: ENGIE is now opening the door to discussions on Belgium's nuclear energy policy.”
The closing, the result of an in-depth and constructive dialogue between the State and ENGIE, marks a genuine paradigm shift by sending a clear signal to operators: Belgium is approaching the future of its energy mix without taboos and with the intention of building a resilient, affordable and low-carbon energy policy for the future.
Mathieu Bihet welcomes Engie's willingness to be part of this new dynamic, which aims to guarantee reliable and affordable energy for citizens and businesses, while strengthening the country's strategic autonomy in an unstable international context.
By opening this long-term reflection, the federal government wants to give all energy sector players the visibility and confidence needed to invest in Belgium's energy future and supply security.
