MP and group leader in the Parliament of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, Diana Nikolić, appeared on “QR le débat” on Wednesday evening to defend the MR's civil service reforms.
“This MR-Les Engagés government is very clear, it has set itself two objectives: 1) return to budgetary balance, otherwise tomorrow we will no longer be able to guarantee any public service, including essential services 2) modernise our administration and make it more efficient. It's not about spending less but spending better to provide a better service, particularly through administrative simplification”
A majority of viewers surveyed believe there are too many civil servants in Brussels and Wallonia.
For Diana Nikolić, the question doesn't arise in those terms. There are certainly services that can be streamlined, where duplication exists, but conversely there are sectors such as Youth Assistance that the MR has continually strengthened and which must not be weakened.
In this debate, it is troubling to hear the left constantly proposing that we spend more; that is exactly the recipe that led us to this situation, which means that today we are forced to rationalise and count every euro invested to safeguard the future of our public services.
