Good news for households with solar panels in Wallonia: when their installation is curtailed due to excessive grid voltage, they will be able to receive compensation for the electricity they could not produce.
The Walloon Government adopted a draft decree in first reading this Thursday, introducing a compensation scheme for the first time. Objective: to provide a concrete and long-awaited response to the losses suffered by “prosumers”.
In concrete terms:
- The mechanism will come into force next year.
- Compensation will be proportional to the actual production loss. For an average installation, this amounts to a few dozen to several hundred euros per year.
- However, a communicating meter will be required, and users must register with their network operator (Ores, Resa…). Monitoring will then be automatic, year after year, until the issue is resolved.
“Prosumers have played their part in the energy transition. It was not right that they suffered losses without compensation,” said Cécile Neven, Walloon Minister for Energy.
