The federal government today approved, at second reading, the draft bill put forward by Bernard Quintin, Minister of Security and the Interior (MR), which will allow the activities of organisations or groups that threaten national security or the foundations of the rule of law to be banned.
“The objective is clear: to neutralise the radical or dangerous organisations that threaten our security. We will no longer allow the enemies of the rule of law and democracy to act with impunity on our soil. There is no place for radicalism and extremism in our country, whether left-wing or right-wing, religious or political!”, stresses Bernard Quintin.
The text will make it possible to very quickly ban the activities of radical and/or extremist organisations or groups which, through their overall, structured and repeated action, represent a serious and present threat to our society and our security.
“The pace of justice is no longer the pace of the threat. Individuals or groups can become radicalised within days or weeks, whereas courts and tribunals often take months or even years to reach a decision. If the security services alert us to a serious and repeated threat, this government will not stand idly by”, concludes Bernard Quintin.
