Wallonia is stepping up its fight against the Asian hornet. On the initiative of Nature Minister Anne-Catherine Dalcq, citizens can now report a nest directly via the FixMyStreet Wallonie platform. Nearly one hundred municipalities are already connected to this new tool, which coordinates the entire process, from reporting to removal.
In practice, it is enough to locate the nest in the “Asian hornet nest” category. The report is then verified by the municipality, which organises the intervention with the relevant services. The Walloon Region also provides financial support to municipalities to speed up nest removal and better protect biodiversity and beehives.
“With FixMyStreet, every report from a citizen can now trigger a coordinated and efficient intervention. It's concrete, it's traceable, and it strengthens the effectiveness of the whole chain,” says Anne-Catherine Dalcq.
