Pensions

Every year of work counts, and working always pays more than not working.

The MR wants a pension reform that is fair between generations and between employment statuses: guaranteeing a decent pension for younger generations without crushing those in work, and ensuring equal treatment between public- and private-sector pensioners.

Work

The longer and more continuously you work, the higher your pension should be.

Fairness

Gradual convergence of the rules between public and private status, while respecting acquired rights.

Three pillars

A solid public pillar, an accessible occupational pillar, an encouraged individual pillar.

The statutory pension: a real income linked to work

The statutory pension must once again become a genuine replacement income linked to work. The longer and more continuously you work, the higher your pension should be.

Solidarity mechanisms remain necessary, but they must not discourage those who contribute, nor give the impression that inactivity pays better than employment. The system must send a clear message: every year of work counts, and working always pays more than not working.

Reducing inequalities between employment statuses

Today, workers doing comparable jobs, sometimes within the same institution, build up very different pension rights depending on whether they fall under public or private status. Historically, higher public-sector pensions could offset lower salaries: that is no longer the case.

The MR calls for a gradual convergence of the rules and a closer alignment of the schemes, while respecting acquired rights, so that similar situations are treated in a similar way.

Three complementary pillars

The MR's vision rests on a system built around three pillars: a solid and fairer first public pillar, closely linked to one's career; a widely accessible second occupational pillar; and an encouraged third individual pillar for those who wish to strengthen their security in retirement.

It is the balance between these three pillars, underpinned by work and fairness between statuses, that will guarantee a sustainable and credible system for every generation.
