In brief
Born in Mons in 1974, Jacqueline Galant is the daughter of Jacques Galant, mayor of Jurbise. A graduate in political and administrative sciences from the Facultés universitaires catholiques de Mons, she joined the PRL-FDF in 1999 and then became an adviser to Louis Michel, then Minister for Foreign Affairs.
She became mayor of Jurbise in 2000. After the ballot was annulled, her list won an absolute majority in the elections of January 2001. Elected to the Chamber in 2003 with more than 11,000 preference votes, she was re-elected in 2007 and chaired the MR district of Mons-Borinage from 2004.
As the MR's lead candidate in the Mons constituency at the 2014 regional elections, she joined Charles Michel's federal government in October of that year as Minister for Mobility, a post she held until April 2016. She then sat in the Walloon Parliament and the Parliament of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, where she was re-elected in 2019.
Since July 2024 she has been Minister for the Civil Service, Simplification, Sport and the Media, with responsibilities exercised within both the Walloon Government and the Government of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
