Wallonia is ending automatic tenure in its civil service in order to build a more modern, agile and fairer administration. Staff who already have tenured status keep their acquired rights, but the new rules will help harmonise professional situations, better reward merit and open up careers further, particularly for contract staff. For citizens, the goal is clear: a more efficient, responsive public service that is genuinely geared to their needs. For staff, this reform must also make the civil service more attractive, ease internal mobility and encourage more open career paths between the public and private sectors.
