On 21 October, the MR President had the honour of accompanying the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, together with Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, during the commemoration ceremony held at Bois du Cazier.
This highly symbolic visit was an opportunity to pay tribute to those who, through their work and often at the risk of their lives, helped build industrial Wallonia and modern Belgium.
Present at the ceremony, the MR President recalled how essential it was to preserve the memory of these courageous workers, who came from Italy and elsewhere, and who shaped our shared history.
Beyond its political dimension, this commemoration also had a deeply personal significance: “As the grandson of an Italian miner, taking part in this tribute was, for me, a moment of profound emotion and sincere reflection.”
The MR is committed to this effort of remembrance and recognition of all those who, through their labour and courage, helped build an open, united and prosperous Belgium.
