During this autumn period, and more specifically as part of the month of October dedicated to breast cancer prevention, the members of the MR SENIORS committee strongly encourage the public to make sure they get screened for the various types of cancer.
Breast cancer screening is free every 2 years between the ages of 50 and 69. Colorectal cancer screening is free every 2 years between the ages of 50 and 74. Cervical cancer screening is free between the ages of 25 and 64.
For other types of cancer, there is no systematic screening programme in Belgium. It is therefore advisable to consult your GP, who remains the first point of contact.
Family history, risk factors and various symptoms are warning signs to watch for. About 40% of cancers are preventable through prevention, early screening and a healthy lifestyle.
In addition, winter is approaching, bringing seasonal viruses with it. Vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to protect yourself and others, particularly against flu and Covid-19.
Talk to your GP or pharmacist about it. Vaccination is particularly recommended for people over 65.
