Liberals have always made the difference
“The big difference between the MR and Les Engagés is that we are the original version. We were the first on nuclear power, on work, and on cleaning up our public structures.Every time liberals have had the chance to apply their programme, there have been major reforms! When Didier Reynders was at Finance, he initiated major reforms. When Charles Michel, Prime Minister, gave more money to working men and women. When the MR isn't blocked, we get there.
“If Les Engagés want to extend nuclear power, it won't be with the Greens; if they want a real reform of the labour market, it won't be with the PS. The same goes for reforming Walloon public structures. How sincere are these commitments really? There needs to be more clarity on this.”
The MR increases wages the most
“According to the Federal Planning Bureau, the MR is the party that increases wages the most, with the highest growth rate… The MR has the most favourable record for working men and women.
We want a €500 difference between someone who works and someone who doesn't. Today, a benefit recipient who receives more than €1,700 plus other social support (transport, childcare…) sometimes earns more than the social worker standing in front of them.”
A firmer justice system
“We have 336 police officers per 100,000 inhabitants in Belgium. That's more than our neighbours.
The problem is that we ask too much of our police: nearly 147 additional tasks have been given to our law enforcement forces. Police officers often arrest the same people, with no follow-up prosecution. Sentence enforcement is too often lacking. It's not a resource problem in justice and policing if people are released after a third of their sentence, but a problem of rules!”
