In a demanding budgetary context, MR President Georges-Louis Bouchez reaffirms his position: not one more tax! Neither for Defence, nor to cover public deficits.
According to the OECD and Eurostat, Belgium is already one of the most heavily taxed countries in the world. The tax wedge on labour has reached record levels, stifling workers, entrepreneurs and investors.
For the MR, the problem is not a lack of revenue, but rather excessive public spending. Before considering increasing the tax burden on citizens, waste, administrative duplication and inefficient public spending must be tackled.
"Solidarity is not measured by the level of taxes, but by the quality of what is done with citizens' money. And today, too often, that money is misused," declared Georges-Louis Bouchez. He is calling for rigorous management, refocused on the state's essential missions: security, justice, education, innovation and health.
The increase in defence investments promised by the government will therefore be financed without new taxes, through the sale of non-strategic assets and a targeted reduction of inefficient spending. This model, based on budgetary responsibility, aims to protect taxpayers while preparing for the future.
The MR remains true to its line: support those who work, reward effort, refuse the easy tax. Because respect for citizens starts with respect for their wallets.
