This Thursday, 11 July, exactly one month to the day after negotiations began, the Presidents of the MR, Georges-Louis BOUCHEZ, and of the Les Engagés movement, Maxime PREVOT, presented the new Regional Policy Statement (DPR) and Community Policy Statement (DPC) for the 2024-2029 legislature.
Over the past month, the two formateurs met with all sections of civil society in thematic groups. It was also an opportunity for the internal teams of the MR and Les Engagés to work jointly in a small group on developing these new policies. This unprecedented dynamic for Wallonia and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation represents a notable shift in future political decision-making, paving the way for a clear and reassuring future.
“We want to take the Walloon Region and the FWB into a new era”, said MR President Georges-Louis Bouchez. For Les Engagés President Maxime Prévot: “We had to meet the expectations of our fellow citizens and their aspiration for change, and we succeeded!”
The agreements presented this Thursday represent a new impetus for both entities, adopting priority reforms for their socio-economic recovery and ensuring successful transitions for the benefit of all citizens and future generations.
For Georges-Louis Bouchez: “We are going to take measures to reduce the budget deficit. An effort over ten years to return to balance, but without delaying the reforms. We are aiming to halve the deficit by the end of this legislature. Wallonia will make an additional effort to ensure that the FWB is protected on budgetary matters”.
“We have compiled over 200 pages with clear direction, a sharp vision, and with turning points and breaks that are openly acknowledged in these texts. These reforms are expected, necessary and useful to put our Region and Federation on the path to prosperity, success and quality of life for our fellow citizens.”, explained Maxime Prévot.
During the course of next week, the Mouvement Réformateur and Les Engagés will announce the teams that will shape and embody the reforms that our Region and Federation need.
