During a debate on VEDIA, Stéphanie Cortisse, MR MP in the Parliament of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and full member of the Education Committee, wanted to put an end to the misinformation and simplistic slogans surrounding the measures of Programme-Decree II.
She was also able to clarify that, contrary to what some suggest, several measures that upset those working in the field are not derived from this Programme-Decree, nor from the reforms of the current Government. The abolition of the differentiated stream, the extension of the common core curriculum, the creation of more heterogeneous classes,... all of this stems from the “Pact for Excellence in Teaching”, signed in 2017 by the unions, the federations of school governing bodies, the parents' association federations and the parties of the time (PS-CDH). Set to come into force year by year, this new common core curriculum resulting from the Pact will reach the first year of secondary school at the next school year 2026-2027. However, the current majority, driven by the MR, has provided for certain adjustments, as set out in the Community Policy Statement.
