MR President Georges-Louis Bouchez met on Wednesday with Ms Amal Jadou Shaka'a, Ambassador of Palestine to Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union.
This meeting, marked by frankness and cordiality, allowed for an in-depth discussion of the international issues related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, in a spirit of listening and mutual respect. On this occasion, the MR President reiterated the party's consistent position: the rejection of any form of hatred, stigmatisation or ideological shortcut. The MR advocates a balanced approach based on the pursuit of peace, respect for international law and the protection of civilian populations, whether Palestinian or Israeli.
The MR unequivocally condemns all terrorist attacks, particularly those carried out by Hamas, which represent neither the Palestinian people's aspirations for peace nor a solution for the region. We call for compliance with United Nations resolutions by all parties and support the work of international bodies in establishing responsibilities objectively.
We believe that the only lasting way out of the conflict lies in the coexistence of two democratic states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side within secure and recognised borders, respecting the human rights of every inhabitant.
We will support the delivery of humanitarian aid to the civilian population of Gaza, in coordination with European partners, while ensuring that this assistance is not diverted by terrorist organisations. We also recall the importance of preserving national unity and combating any form of incitement to hatred, antisemitism or Islamophobia on Belgian territory. Belgium must remain a space for dialogue, tolerance and respect for democratic values.
Finally, we will continue to advocate, at European and international level, for the creation of conditions for a peaceful Middle East, where justice, freedom and security are guaranteed for all.
This meeting with the Ambassador of Palestine reflects President Georges-Louis Bouchez's commitment to maintaining an open dialogue with all stakeholders concerned, in keeping with his fundamental values: peace, justice and human dignity.
