The Government of Wallonia, on the initiative of the ministers in charge of Hunting and Administrative Simplification, Anne-Catherine Dalcq and Jacqueline Galant, has given final approval to the implementation of the digitisation of the hunting licence. From the 2026 hunting season, the hunting licence will be digitised in Wallonia and obtained via Mon Espace Wallonie.
This development aims to simplify procedures for users, reduce administrative trips and make the process clearer. Physical counters will remain accessible for people who have difficulty with digital tools.
How to apply for a hunting licence?
The application for the hunting licence is submitted via monespace.wallonie.be.
The hunter identifies themselves on the platform and completes their personal details: surname, first name, date of birth, address and national register number.
They then submit the documents required to process their application:
- a criminal record extract less than 3 months old;
- a valid certificate of passing the theoretical and practical hunting exam;
- an insurance certificate;
- from 2027, a medical certificate less than 5 months old.
Payment for the licence is made directly online, via the integrated electronic payment module. Issuance is not instant. The submitted documents are always checked manually by the administration. Once the file is approved, the licence is deposited in Mon Espace Wallonie.
For people who are not comfortable with digital tools, two solutions exist. The hunter can ask a third party to submit the application on their behalf. In this case, a power of attorney must be attached to the file. They can also go to one of the SPW IAS counters during the designated periods. They are no longer required to attend the office of the province of their residence.
What form will the new licence take?
The licence will no longer take the form of a paper card with an annual sticker. It will now be digitised and represented by a QR code. The hunter will be able to keep it on their phone or print it out.
The licence will show the following information:
- surname and first name;
- date of birth;
- the hunting year for which the licence is valid;
- the date of issue;
- the QR code.
What will you need to have with you on the day of the hunt?
While hunting, the hunter must be able to present:
- their digitised licence on their phone or their printed QR code;
- an identity document.
They will no longer need to carry their insurance certificate. This will already have been submitted and checked at the time of the licence application. The digitisation of the licence changes neither the obligations linked to hunting nor the applicable checks.
“The digitalisation of the hunting licence is a concrete measure of administrative simplification. It avoids unnecessary trips, centralises the process and makes the procedure simpler for hunters. We are modernising the system while maintaining the necessary safeguards,” stresses the Minister for Hunting, Anne-Catherine Dalcq.
“The Walloon Government has made administrative simplification a priority, and the digitalisation of all licences a priority as well. The completion of the digitalisation of the hunting licence is a major and very concrete step forward for hunters. Once again, together with Anne-Catherine and the rest of the Government, we are making concrete progress in simplifying procedures for all citizens, whoever they are,” says the Minister for Administrative Simplification, Jacqueline Galant.
This reform marks an important step in modernising hunting-related procedures in Wallonia. It simplifies life for users while maintaining in-person support for those who need it.
