Our President began his week in front of Maxime Binet's microphone on LN24's morning show on 9 September. As a guest invited to discuss the major current issues, he took the opportunity to set out his vision and proposals on matters crucial to citizens, particularly security in our towns and municipalities. His appearance helped clarify the MR's positions on key issues and reaffirm the party's commitment to a safer and more responsible future.
Security: a priority
Georges-Louis Bouchez put the emphasis on security, a central issue for the party. Figures show that insecurity has soared in our towns and municipalities in recent years, with a marked increase in violent crime and drug trafficking. He also deplores the rise in anti-social behaviour, which he believes has become normalised in public spaces. Behaviour such as urinating in the street or excessive begging is now seen as normal, which reflects an unacceptable laxity.
Local and federal solutions to strengthen security
The MR stresses the need to strengthen local measures to tackle insecurity, notably through the installation of surveillance cameras, which play a crucial role in preventing and punishing offences. It also proposes enhancing the role of community wardens by giving them better training so they can become authorised officers and thus sanction anti-social behaviour with administrative fines. Finally, he criticises the lack of accountability among political authorities, whom he accuses of shifting blame onto others to justify the ineffectiveness of measures taken.
At federal level, although often mentioned as a potential Interior Minister or for other senior positions, Georges-Louis Bouchez remains focused on his goal of becoming mayor of Mons. At the same time, he affirms his willingness to take on responsibility to ensure an effective and well-coordinated government. For him, a government agreement must be precise and avoid the ambiguities that marked the previous legislature.
A strong commitment to a safer future
Georges-Louis reminds us that the priority is to create a safe environment for all citizens, and he calls for a political framework in which responsibilities are clearly defined and upheld. For the MR President, a proactive approach is essential: it is not just about reacting to insecurity, but taking concrete measures to anticipate and reduce it, both locally and federally.
In conclusion, our President calls for collective awareness and resolute action to restore security and wellbeing in our municipalities and towns. The MR has the solutions to achieve this, placing responsibility and rigour at the heart of public security policy.
