On Tuesday, MR President Georges-Louis Bouchez visited the historic Lotus Bakeries site in Lembeke, East Flanders, where the famous Biscoff® biscuits are produced. This latest company visit continues our ongoing work: meeting the people who drive our economy, who invest, innovate and help our country prosper, while highlighting Belgian industrial companies that create jobs in our territory.
Welcomed by CEO Jan Boone and his teams, Georges-Louis Bouchez was able to discuss the group's development strategy, its local roots, its family history and its international expansion. Lotus Bakeries now has four production sites in Belgium, including notably its Courcelles site in Wallonia, which illustrates the importance of industrial activity across the whole country.
In total, Lotus Bakeries employs more than 4,000 people worldwide, nearly 2,000 of them in Belgium. This strong presence demonstrates the weight of Belgium's food industry and the ability of our family businesses to rise to the rank of global players.
For the MR, this kind of meeting helps us gain a concrete understanding of the needs of entrepreneurs and workers in the sector, so as to promote an economic framework that fosters investment, innovation, quality jobs and the competitiveness of our industrial champions, in both Flanders and Wallonia.
