Georges-Louis Bouchez welcomed the clear-sightedness of the White House's new strategic security note, signed by President Donald Trump. For him, this document points unambiguously to Europe's weaknesses: deindustrialisation, underinvestment in defence, overtaxation and overregulation, which weaken our competitiveness and geopolitical weight.
He also shares the diagnosis of the risk of Europe's "civilisational erasure": poorly managed immigration and a "woke" ideology that shames the assertion of our identity threaten our shared values, rooted in ancient Greece, Rome, Humanism, the Enlightenment and the Judeo-Christian heritage. Defending these roots, setting clear conditions for integration and enforcing our rules in Belgium is not about exclusion: it is about protecting the common project.
For the MR, this note is not an attack on Europe, but an electric shock to be seized as a lever for reform. Reindustrialisation, controlled migration policy, strengthened defence, and relief from taxes and bureaucracy: Europe has every asset needed to bounce back if it breaks free from the triple straitjacket of overtaxation, overregulation and socialism. It is "one minute to midnight": the time has come for action, not for hollow indignation.
