On Monday 21 April, an important meeting took place between Mr Christian Ndongala Nkunku, Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Congo to Belgium, and the President of the Mouvement Réformateur Georges-Louis Bouchez. A frank and constructive exchange, marked by mutual respect and a shared will to move forward.
Together, they addressed several major issues: the situation in eastern Congo, marked by tensions and security challenges. But also our bilateral relations, which must evolve towards balanced agreements, based on economic, security and strategic partnerships that benefit both nations.
Georges-Louis Bouchez says it clearly: eternal repentance and fixation on the past are not an answer to tomorrow's challenges. The future of our relations must be built on respect, dignity and mutual recognition. Two friendly countries. Two equal countries.
Belgium and the Democratic Republic of Congo have much to share and to build together. It is through concrete cooperation, joint projects and a vision for the future that we can open up new opportunities for our citizens, here and there.
Turning the page on the past does not mean forgetting it. It means building a better future, hand in hand.
