Speaking on RTL's 7pm news, Georges-Louis Bouchez recalled that for the MR it was essential to maintain Belgians' purchasing power and protect households from tax pressure. The MR President noted that the liberals were the only ones to oppose the increase in VAT rates, thereby avoiding a general rise in consumption tax. The main rates of 6%, 12% and 21% remain fully unchanged, and not a single extra cent will be taken from grocery shopping.
“100% of workers are protected. Even though a temporary contribution is required from high earners, it is offset by the tax reform and will only apply twice during the legislature.” The MR has thus avoided any across-the-board index jump, securing wage growth without impoverishing the population.
Finally, asked about energy, he criticised the European obligations that impose a gradual increase in gas prices, while highlighting the drop in electricity prices achieved in the agreement. “The aim is to allow everyone to adapt to the energy transition without penalising households' daily lives,” he stressed. For Georges-Louis Bouchez, this is a major budgetary victory, with nearly 80% reduction in spending, and a concrete commitment to stability and growth.
