Speaking as a guest on Thomas Gadisseux's morning show on La Première, Georges-Louis Bouchez recalled that the MR refuses to stand on the sidelines in the face of the Brussels Region's explosive budget situation. The MR proposes forming a slimmed-down government tasked with drawing up a budget to be submitted to Parliament, in order to create genuine solidarity between partners and move forward together.
The MR President also stressed political consistency: it is hard to exclude the largest party in Brussels, which won over 100,000 votes, or to want to govern simultaneously with the MR and with those who directly oppose the liberal policies pursued in Wallonia and at the federal level.
On budgetary substance, Georges-Louis Bouchez points to the absence of a culture of fiscal consolidation in Brussels: the necessary efforts were never made, and it is precisely by entering government that one creates the obligation to jointly maintain a recovery path before Parliament. Full solidarity with Kyiv, but a refusal to use or seize private Russian assets held in Belgium, which he views as a dangerous precedent on legal, diplomatic and security grounds. He instead advocates for a large joint European loan from the 27 member states to support Ukraine, without undermining the fundamental principle of protecting private property.
