Georges-Louis Bouchez, President of the MR, was the only French speaker to appear on Het Conclaaf on VTM over the past two weeks. This successful Flemish programme brings together, at the Château de Jemeppe, well-known Flemish figures and influential politicians who played a key role in 2024. Director Eric Goens did not go easy on Georges-Louis Bouchez, confronting him with all sorts of questions and caricatures.
“The sincerity of my political commitment comes from my life experience,” said Mr Bouchez. “These are not postures, it's my life.”
He also explained precisely why he believes the left is stuck in a dead end: “When you're on the left, you can't tell the truth because of the trade unions, mutual insurance funds and associations that prevent you from doing so.”
Regarding his collaboration with the formateur Bart De Wever, he is categorical: “With just Bart and me at the table, we'd have a government within five days.”
In the château's duel room, Mr Bouchez took part in an hour-long courteous debate with Conner Rousseau, President of Vooruit. All the major topics were covered: taxation, work, asylum, migration and the fight against extremism.
The evening ended with a conversation around the Christmas tree, alongside Bart De Wever, Conner Rousseau, entrepreneur Marc Coucke, presenter Cathérine Moerkerke, gymnast Nina Derwael and comedian William Boeva.
