For Georges-Louis Bouchez, the conditional release of Farid Hakimi is unacceptable! The man behind violent gang home-jackings had received a 14-year prison sentence in October 2020. This was increased to 17 years on appeal in April 2021. He was recently spotted in a restaurant by one of his victims. For the MR President, this is an outrageous scandal!
For GLB, "this is no longer justice, it's a farce. We are witnessing a blatant failure of our system, where citizens' safety is being compromised."
For the MR, it is also time to review certain practices regarding pre-trial detention. For sentences exceeding 15 years, it is absurd that pre-trial detention is taken into account when calculating the one-third rule. This amounts to an additional injustice for victims and their families.
As for reintegrating prisoners into society, it is crucial to establish mechanisms that guarantee real compensation for victims. If a prisoner wishes to obtain early conditional release, a significant portion of their income should be seized to contribute to compensating those affected by their actions. This is a matter of basic justice.
Unfortunately, the sense of justice in our country seems to have disappeared. It's not a question of resources, but rather of proportionality between the acts committed and the sanctions imposed. It is high time to thoroughly reform our Criminal Code to restore trust in our justice system.
It is essential to implement these measures and, if necessary, to include them as a non-negotiable condition in future government talks. Justice can no longer wait.
