Georges-Louis Bouchez in De Standaard

04/05/2024
In brief

Georges-Louis Bouchez sets three priorities for the country's future: getting more people into work to raise net wages and cut taxes, strengthening equal opportunities through compulsory schooling from age 3 and a solid foundation in primary education, and ensuring affordable, climate-friendly energy by combining renewables and nuclear power to strengthen our independence.

In which three areas must we absolutely reform to keep our country on the right track? "Work/taxation, education and energy", Georges-Louis Bouchez replied to De Standaard. He spoke at length with the Flemish newspaper about his long-term vision for our country.

More people need to work. Above all in Wallonia and Brussels. Only then can we give everyone a higher net wage. Only then can we cut taxes and improve the budget. Because we cannot burden our children and grandchildren with debt.

Equal opportunities start with education. That is why the MR wants school to be compulsory from age 3. By the third year of primary school, all children should be able to read, write and do arithmetic. Education and employment are the best social policies.

We need to be sure of having our own electricity at an affordable price. For everyone. Climate-friendly energy. That is why we must combine renewable energy with nuclear power plants. A strategic mix that makes us more independent of other countries and geopolitical changes.
