Georges-Louis Bouchez in 7sur7 & Het Laatste Nieuws: "No capital gains tax on pension savings or group insurance"

In brief
Bouchez guarantees that, with the MR, no capital gains tax will affect pension savings or group insurance. Any potential tax would remain limited to the stock market and the sale of businesses, so that only the broadest shoulders contribute.
"With the MR, there will be no capital gains tax on pension savings or group insurance." Unlike the Flemish socialists of Vooruit, Georges-Louis Bouchez intends to respect the principle of the government agreement: only the broadest shoulders should contribute. "We will therefore protect the middle class."
"The capital gains tax must target the stock market and the sale of businesses. Not pension savings or insurance products. These are already taxed today. So there's no question of negotiating on that," says Bouchez. "Moreover, wasn't the whole promise of this tax that the broadest shoulders would contribute? Now you understand why I was always so reluctant about this tax? Because I know that in Belgium, it's always a lie when they say they're going to target the wealthiest. In the end, it's always the middle class that pays, because that's how you maximise revenue."
"Someone who saves money for years for their child, or a baker who sells their bakery after already paying tens of thousands of euros in taxes, these are not the people we should be targeting," repeats the MR President. "If Vooruit wants to spare the middle class, we can quickly reach an agreement. But if the aim is to attack the middle class, it will become more complicated, and I will oppose it firmly."
Conclusion: the MR will continue to protect the middle class: everyone who works, saves and invests for themselves, their children or their grandchildren.
