The MR President and election winner, Georges-Louis Bouchez, was a guest on RTL TVI's 1pm news. For the MR, citizens do not need new taxes in one of the most heavily taxed countries in the world.
The MR does not want a tax on success and merit
“The measure on capital gains cannot exist within the current balance of the super note. And regarding capital gains, I'd like to clarify, this is not about protecting the rich. There are people who work for 40, 50 years in family businesses and who, at the end of their career, after paying hundreds of thousands of euros in taxes and social contributions, get the chance to enjoy a bit of the fruits of their labour. I do not want a tax on success. I do not want a tax on merit.”
Counter-proposals
“I made counter-proposals, nearly 10 counter-proposals to balance the super note.
And only one party stopped wanting to negotiate.
It's hardly a surprise that the Liberal Party doesn't like taxes. I was not elected to create taxes in the most heavily taxed country in the world.”
A balance to be respected
“Today, in this super note, there is no overall balance between the volume of taxes and the reforms.
The mandate given by voters must be respected, which was to support the MR for a tax cut, better reward for work, and support for entrepreneurship.
On the table right now are the VAT increase on food, the increase in excise duties on fuel, the reduction in the possibility of getting reimbursed for commuting between home and work,…
These are things that affect people every day. As far as I understand, today only the MR is saying that this super note is not balanced.”
Correcting inaccuracies
“We continue to seek an overall balance.
We are ready to make compromises. When I make counter-proposals and one particular political group doesn't budge, it's a bit too easy to come and say it's our fault.
If I am speaking out today, it is to correct inaccuracies and lies I read in the press. Because the others, it seems, had no qualms about making off-the-record statements, without taking responsibility for a whole series of inaccurate things.
I'm just here to rebalance things, but I'm not saying anything about what comes next. And I'm careful not to say anything that could hinder the rest of the negotiations.
Arizona is not dead. There's no point in needlessly dramatising. We will succeed.”
