The Walloon Government has decided to grant a subsidy of €710,000 to the City of Rochefort to support the resilient reconstruction of the banks of the Lhomme and the rehabilitation of the Parc des Roches.
As the green lung of Rochefort, this park plays a central role in the life of the city. Valued by residents and visitors alike, it remains a place for relaxation despite the damage caused by the July 2021 floods. Its rehabilitation is now essential to fully restore its uses and strengthen protection against the risk of flooding.
The rehabilitation project is based on a comprehensive approach to the site, integrating the restoration of natural components, the strengthening of the green-blue network, the improvement of leisure and relaxation areas, and the stabilisation of the banks of the Lhomme. This overall vision makes it possible to simultaneously address issues of mobility, safety, climate resilience, public access and environmental enhancement.
It notably provides for the de-sealing of the site, the widening of the river, the renaturalisation of certain areas and the enhancement of uses for everyone in a green setting.
This project is being carried out in close consultation with the Direction des Cours d'Eau Non Navigables of SPW ARNE, which has transferred project ownership to the City to enable optimal implementation.
