During this visit organised by MR Doornik, the staff of "des Jardins des Anges" gave Julie Taton and Jacqueline Galant an insight into daily life at this care centre for people with disabilities, with its strengths but also its challenges.
Les Jardins des Anges cares for 60 residents, many of whom have severe disabilities. The centre also works towards greater inclusion by organising outdoor activities such as concerts or disability football competitions thanks to the non-profit Loisirs IncluS.
This was the first field visit for Julie Taton, a candidate for the upcoming federal elections in Hainaut. A visit that was all the more symbolic for Julie, since her own child has a disability:
"Touching, moving, inspiring! I'm delighted about this visit, because this type of centre is unfortunately too often forgotten", explains Julie Taton.
"Here, everything is designed for the residents' wellbeing. There's a balneotherapy centre, a games room, meeting spaces, a room for families and many other services! I was also struck by the motivation and kindness of the staff", adds Julie Taton.
For MP-Mayor Jacqueline Galant, the centre deserves more support at the Walloon level. She will soon speak on the subject in Parliament:
"The residents are mostly French nationals, and it's a shame that AviQ doesn't get more involved with these types of facilities, such as Safae.
We thank the staff of the institution for the passion they put into their work. They too are our everyday heroes!".
