This Thursday in the Chamber, MR President Georges-Louis Bouchez questioned the Prime Minister on the threats currently weighing on the security and cohesion of our democracy.
Drawing notably on Europol's latest report, he pointed out that jihadist terrorism and far-left terrorism are among the main terrorist threats in Europe. A reality that, in his view, requires strong vigilance and a firm political response.
The MR President also raised the alarm over the worrying rise of antisemitism in Belgium, which he views as a concerning indicator of the state of our democracy. While the Jewish population represents a very small minority, reports of antisemitic acts have risen sharply, and many Jewish citizens now say they are adapting their behaviour out of fear for their safety.
For Georges-Louis Bouchez, the response must be clear and determined. He called on the government to strengthen security measures and the criminal justice framework, as well as to appoint a coordinator specifically tasked with combating antisemitism.
The MR President also called for maintaining appropriate security measures, including the presence of military personnel in public spaces when the threat justifies it, in order to guarantee the protection of all citizens.
Faced with these threats, the MR is calling for concrete action to defend security, the rule of law, and democratic values.
