On a proposal by the Minister for Self-Employed Workers and SMEs, Eléonore SIMONET, Parliament voted this Thursday in plenary session on a reform of the Supplementary Pension for Self-Employed Workers (PLCI). Two new features: an increase in the rate and an opening to self-employed workers with a secondary activity.
The reform indeed provides for:
- The increase in the maximum contribution rate:
- the classic PLCI rises from 8.17% to 8.50%,
- the social PLCI is adjusted accordingly. In accordance with the law, the gap with the ordinary PLCI must be 15%, bringing the rate from 9.40% to 9.78%.
- The opening of the PLCI to self-employed workers with a secondary activity who pay contributions and previously had no access to it
Eléonore SIMONET: “We want to encourage the widespread take-up of supplementary pensions for the self-employed, in order to generate additional income for self-employed pensioners.”
The measure will come into force on the day of publication in the Belgian Official Gazette. Nevertheless, self-employed workers will be able to fully benefit from the increase in PLCI contributions for the year 2026, as they have the option of regularising contributions already paid in 2026.
